If you have a dog that has issues when guests come over—maybe they're afraid of guests and they bark a little bit, or maybe they get excited and start jumping all over your guest—the best time to tell your guest what's about to happen and what you need them to do is before they even get to your house.
Let’s say you're having a big family dinner—email everyone, text everyone. Say, “This is what's going to happen. Here's what I need you to do.”
The worst place to have this discussion is once people enter your house, and you're standing right there at the front door, your dog’s barking or he's jumping, and you're trying to explain to your guest what to do.
So if your dog does have issues when people come over, the more proactive you can be, the more prepared your guests can be—the better for your dog.
